The annual World Best Cities Report collates data from more than 400 cities around the globe and judges on three factors: liveability, lovability and prosperity.
This is the first time Sydney has ranked in the top ten.
The ranking citation highlights our city’s stunning harbour and increased walkability, cycling connections and the transformation of George Street, as well as new green plazas.
Our excellent air quality ranked seventh in the world, due in large part to the 17,000 trees we’ve planted since 2004 as part of our Urban Forest Strategy.
The judges were also impressed with the design excellence demonstrated in new and refurbished buildings.
Like other major global cities listed, housing affordability continues to place a great strain on our liveability rankings. So does transport connections.
That’s why we continue to use every lever we have to create more affordable housing and continue to advocate for increased active and public transport, like light rail down Parramatta Road to Green Square.
We’re making a healthier city, that’s greener and more vibrant. I’m proud of our achievements and that our work transforming Sydney is recognised on the global stage.
