This crucial link between Castlereagh Street and Taylor Square supports people riding the City’s most popular route and provides access to dedicated cycleways along Castlereagh, Liverpool, College and Bourke streets.
This is an important milestone in our commitment to active transport and safer streets.

Over the last 20 years, we have delivered kilometres of bike-friendly streets. This has made cycling a safe transport option for many, freeing up space on our roads and public transport.
Oxford Street is one of the city’s busiest bike routes, with almost 3,000 people riding daily. We expect that number to double in the coming years with this new cycleway.
People walking, sitting at cafes and restaurants or visiting local business will also benefit from wider footpaths, improved crossings, new garden beds and kerb ramps that provide a buffer from vehicles.
Rather than functioning as a noisy traffic thoroughfare, we are working to ensure Oxford Street is a place for people to linger, explore and support local businesses.

The stars really are aligning for a rejuvenated Oxford Street. We have renewed the public space, given grants for cultural projects including for QTOPIA and encouraged considered development that protects Oxford Street’s unique heritage.
Thank you to the State Government for helping to fund this new cycleway. We look forward to Transport for NSW delivering the extension from Taylor Square to Centennial Park – a critical link between the CBD and Centennial Park.
