It was wonderful to see Haymarket buzzing over the Sydney Lunar New Year festival, and to have the chance to wish so many locals, visitors and business owners good fortune for the year ahead. I was also enamoured with the beautiful bunny illustrations scattered all around Chinatown, drawn by local children!
When the pandemic hit Sydney, our historic Chinatown was one of the areas hit first and hardest.
We’ve been working hard to invite people back to enjoy everything the precinct has to offer, and our Lunar New Year Festival events have played a huge role.
This year we will also begin a $5m public domain upgrade to renew the area and ensure its success long into the future.
We celebrate the Lunar New Year to ward off evil spirits and invite health, happiness and prosperity – and there’s lots to be excited about this year.
