Prime Minister: Don't cut JobKeeper for Sydney's hardest hit industries

When JobKeeper ends on March 28 days time, it will have a disastrous effect on some of Sydney’s hardest hit industries.

While COVID-19 public health measures have kept Australians safe and healthy, they’ve severely impacted industries like live music, tourism, hospitality, events, arts, entertainment, leisure and higher education.

That’s why Alex Greenwich and I – along with 13 industry leaders from across Sydney – have called on the Federal Government for a targeted continuation of the JobKeeper program for at least a further six months.

We also joined many business, charitable, religious and community organisations in requesting the Government further increase the permanent JobSeeker payment to ensure many of our fellow Australians are not forced to live below the poverty line.

We need a targeted continuation of the JobKeeper program for sectors still facing hardship due to Covid-19 controls and a permanent increase to the JobSeeker payment to ensure Australians are not forced to live below the poverty line.
