Housing for All

We'd like to hear your ideas for future homes. To facilitate a conversation with you about what housing is needed and where it can be located, we have released a new discussion paper: Housing For All.

Housing for All

The NSW Government’s draft Sydney Plan sets out a clear expectation that Councils should be reviewing their planning controls to ensure there is additional capacity to increase private development, and that the NSW Government will step in where Councils fail to meet expectations.

Maintaining local planning control is essential to ensure growth aligns with community needs, delivers genuine affordability, and avoids ad-hoc, developer-led outcomes.

For the past 20 years, the City has been at the forefront of delivering high quality housing density alongside the infrastructure needed for liveable communities.

We have delivered over 66,000 new homes and achieved 77% of the housing target set by the previous State Government. And we did that in just 9 years. We have 18,000 more homes currently in the development pipeline.

Notwithstanding the pipeline and zoned capacity, the NSW Government has asked all Councils to identify more opportunities for housing development.

To facilitate a conversation with you about what housing is needed and where it can be located, we have released a new discussion paper: Housing For All.

The paper asks three important questions about housing: Where and how can we plan for more homes? What should the NSW Government do to support more homes? And how can housing better meet the needs of our diverse community?

Your feedback will help deliver more homes alongside responsible planning and infrastructure delivery. You can have your say until 19 June.

We are committed to working with residents, the development sector, business, community housing providers and all tiers of government to make strong planning decisions that meet the housing challenge while delivering positive outcomes for everyone who lives here.

Share your ideas and feedback on our discussion paper before 19 June.
