I proudly marched in the 46th Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras alongside Alex Greenwich. It's been an honour to march in the parade since the '80s, and since 2013 with Alex.
And as we passed the tens of thousands lining the streets, and met the wonderfully dressed parade participants waiting to embark, I couldn't help but notice a sense of sadness and struggle concealed beneath the happiness and joy.
It
has been a difficult few weeks for the LGBTIQA+ community, and the grief, fear, anger and sadness doesn't simply get washed away by one night of glamour and glee.
But I hope last night felt like a salve of sorts, and provided space for you, your friends and loved ones to unite, celebrate and commemorate.
If there's one thing I know about the LGBTIQA+ community, it's an unwavering resilience. Tomorrow, and the next day, week and month, the fight for equality will continue.
Until then, I hope you all get some rest!
