While housing and homelessness is the State Government's responsibility, we use our powers to deliver affordable housing and services for rough sleepers.
Through levies, developer contributions and selling city-owned land at discounted rates to community housing providers, we’ve delivered more than 1,000 affordable housing units – with another 600 in the pipeline.
We are currently battling with the State Government for more social and affordable housing including Aboriginal housing, but have achieved a better environment for the redevelopment of public housing at Waterloo.
We were the first Council in Australia to create a dedicated Homelessness Unit, and we invest more than $1 million a year in homelessness services.
