  • New and improved parks and playgrounds include Nita McCrea Park (Millers Point), Renwick Street Playground (Redfern), Bowden Playground (Alexandria); Jack Shutteworth Playground (Erskineville); Amy Street Reserve (Erskineville); Jessie Street Gardens (Sydney); and Foveaux Street public domain works (Surry Hills).
  • Discussion paper ‘An Open and Creative City’ launched which outlines changes to our planning controls, including allowing shops to stay open to 10pm without DA approval and making it easier for cultural and creative activities.
  • Council endorses plan to review Late Night Trading Premises DCP to ensure it supports a vibrant, diverse, responsible and safe night time economy and our nightlife contributes to Sydney’s image as a global city.
  • $10 million East Sydney Community and Arts Centre opened, on the former Heffron Hall site and adjoining park was renewed and provided with exciting new play equipment.
  • Five new creative retail spaces and an exhibition space opened in Foley Street Darlinghurst, available for subsidised rentals, the shop spaces were converted from storage basements and garages behind a City owned building in Oxford Street.
