  • A more prescriptive planning policy adopted and Council committed to a review to update all planning controls from the former City, South Sydney and Leichhardt Councils.
  • Pyrmont Point Water Police site purchased from the State Government for foreshore parkland. The City paid $11 million for the site in April 2004, adopted the master plan in June 2006, commenced construction of the park in October 2007 and completed work in 2009.
  • Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre (Ultimo) designed by Harry Seidler approved to the full specifications supported by the community.
  • An enhanced relationships declaration program launched, later adopted by other councils and paving the way for state recognition of same-sex relationships and marriage equality which was ultimately achieved in 2017.
